"Back in the nineties, The Andhra Pradesh Hindu Religious Endowments Act was used by the state government to take control of all Hindu temples that were able to generate money. Then AP government tried doing this to a Sai Baba temple. The Sai Baba temple trustees went to court claiming that Sai Baba is not a Hindu God and hence the temple cannot be taken over through The Andhra Pradesh Hindu Religious Endowments Act. The Andhra Pradesh High Court went into details of the religious issues involved and gave a judgement stating that Sai Baba is not a Hindu God and hence Sai Baba temples cannot be acquired by the Government under the said Act. This has opened up flood gates in Hyderabad where people set up temple complexes with several murtis of different Gods like Vishnu, Rama, Siva etc along with a statue of Sai Baba at the center and claiming that the temple is a Sai Baba temple. This proved to be a profitable enterprise for the trustees of temples without Governments’ interference and they promoted Sai Baba worship on a large scale by having Sai Havans and Sai Dhuns. Then Sai Peethams and Mutts promoting Sai Baba worship sprung up all across Andhra Pradesh. This has resulted in large scale propagation of Sai Baba worship in Andhra Pradesh"
