BS Yediyurappa Tests Positive, Second Time In Months, Hospitalised

Mr Yediyurappa said that he was fine but had been hospitalised on the advice of doctors.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa today tweeted to say that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. In a brief post on Twitter, Mr Yediyurappa said that he was fine but had been hospitalised on the advice of doctors. The 78 year-old Yeddiyurappa was earlier hospitalised on August 2, 2020 after he tested positive for coronavirus.

"Upon having mild fever, today I got tested for Covid-19 and my report has come out positive. Although I am doing fine, I am being hospitalised based on the advice of doctors. I request all those who have come in my contact recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine," the Chief Minister's tweet read.

"As the Chief Minister was suffering from fever, he had gone to Ramaiah hospital for general checkup, where COVID test was conducted and as the report has come positive, he will be shifted to the Manipal Hospital," the CMO had earlier said in a statement.

Mr Yediyurappa had got himself inoculated with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on March 12.

The chief minister had been campaigning over the last few days in the north Karnataka constituencies that are voting in bypolls on Saturday.

The announcement came a few hours after Mr Yediyurappa chaired an emergency meeting with Health Minister K Sudhakar and top officials to discuss the Covid situation in the state. Mr Yediyurappa has so far ruled our a lockdown but curfew is in place in seven cities till the 20th.

"There has been a worrying surge in Coronavirus cases. So we have discussed in detail for one and a half hours with our officers. We are going to take final decision on 20th. Until that time, same thing will continue," Mr Yediyurappa said during an interaction with reporters.

Several state leaders including JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and several of Mr Yediyurappa's cabinet colleagues wished the CM speedy recovery.

Last year, Mr Yediyurappa was admitted to Manipal Hospital after he along with his daughter Padmavathi tested positive.

Karnataka on Thursday reported its biggest single day spike of 14,738 new cases of COVID-19, and 66 deaths, taking the number of infections to 11,09,650 and number of fatalities to 13,112. Of the fresh cases, 10,497 were from Bengaluru Urban alone. Total number of active cases stood at 96,561.

This morning, India logged in a record 2,17,353 daily coronavirus cases taking the total caseload to over 1.42 crore.

Karnataka is among the 10 states that account for 79.10 per cent of the new infections, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Cases are on the rise shortage of hospital beds is a reality. Pvt hospitals are also short of remedisver. Production of remedisver was ramped down after 1st wave and now there is a sudden surge. Hope fully in week or 2 we will have enough remedisver. Oxygen supply is also in shortage at some places.

Ground reality is bad.

While making the announcement on Twitter on Saturday, the JD(S) leader urged those who came in close contact with him over the last few days to isolate themselves and get tested.
