According to reports, the thespian has been suffering from health issues for the past few years and after getting a heart stroke this morning, he was admitted to a hospital. Unfortunately, the septuagenarian passed away on Sunday evening and as told by family members, his last rites will take place on Monday. Hailing from Phanigiri village at Suryapet district in Telangana, Gattu Veeraiah was fascinated with stage plays, dramas and films since a young age. Aspiring to become an actor, he landed in Chennai and during the initial days, he worked in a flower shop that does decorations on film sets. As Veeraiah was a dwarf, senior hero Sobhan Babu advised him to meet directors like B Vittalacharya for suitable roles in their films. Thereafter, Veeraiah made his acting debut with Vittalacharya’s 1967 film ‘Aggi Dora’ and went on to feature in Radhamma Pelli, Jaganmohini, Yugandhar, Gaja Donga and others. He acted in over 500 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. During an interview, he revealed that Raja Babu and Dasari Narayana Rao have encouraged him a lot during his beginning days. Potti Veeraiah’s wife Mallika passed away in 2008.
