Yes.. for Jandez... Doctors said No Hope.. my grand father took me to Kotala village near Tirupati... i survived...

happened in 2001 not 1980's 

I do not blame you for your the impression on Ayurveda, because the 75% of practitioners were turned out to be fraudsters, You need to understand that people selling Roots and Herbs on roadside are not part of Ayurveda.  

Ayurveda is an an old science which was developed during medieval period so getting scientifical evidence for it is tough to find now, however the world is recognizing it already otherwise you do not know that this exists at all. As per our Ancestors the methods were already tested on people and the side effects were already logged as scriptures which are not available at this time, as this is not written in English or Telugu does not meant that it is unproven. 

I would say modern medicine is an extension of old medieval methods as most of the medicines are synthesized from Plants, Herbs and Animal products...
