FD in usa gives negligible interest. India lo nri a/c unte better but now india kuda rates baga drop ayinay to around 4-5% but anyday better than usa rates

get an accountant who will advise on some investment products for kids education

Certificate of Deposit.

 

Go for Inflation protected bonds if you are worried about linking money to stock market. CD's are waste.

 

Or got for Short Term Bond funds.

Contribute to 539 plan and buy etfs. CD you can opt but you only get 1% in US. If you FD in India, rupee will fall nullifying whatever interest you get. I don't have any hopes of increasing rupee against dollar unless there is a recession in USA.
