I agree sometimes he takes caste too literally. The reality is komatollu did other jobs like farming and a lot of other castes also did trading. But overall his premise is correct. Caste means the trading people who made profit on the produce of farmers, artisans etc never invested that money in to making factories or panimutlu which helps farmers.

Normally in socities with no caste what happens is that one son is farmer, another son is trader. The trader makes profits on his brothers hard work so what the trader does he invests or buys or lends new tools or machinery for farmers so he can produce more and he can profit more.

But caste made traders in india donate the excess money either to temples, or donate to brahmins or simple store and hide in gold. This is what he meant by "smuggling" - take the hardwork of working people and not give anything in return.

which period of history was he writing about? and what did he say about how money worked in those times. Like how were the coins/money issued.  It'll be interesting to see if his chronicles make any sense.

I'm half komati, and I don't give a fcuk if he calls that caste smugglers. Its not like komats are in mortal danger in society.
