Delhi riots: Student activists Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita, Asif Iqbal Tanha released from prison on bail

Pinjra Tod activists Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita, and Students’ Islamic Organisation activist Asif Iqbal Tanha had been booked under the UAPA anti-terror law for their alleged role in the Delhi riots last year.

Two days after being granted bail, Pinjra Tod activists Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita and Students’ Islamic Organisation activist Asif Iqbal Tanha walked out of Tihar prison in Delhi on Thursday, following a court’s order asking for their immediate release in a case related to the Delhi riots 2020.

They were in jail despite the bail order by the Delhi High Court. Following this, the Delhi court ordered their immediate release earlier today.

Director General (Delhi Prisons) Sandeep Goel confirmed to news agency PTI that all three have been released. A senior jail official said Kalita and Narwal walked out of jail around 7 pm and Tanha around 7.30 pm.

After being released, Tanha said, “Kept hope that I will be released one day; fight against CAA, NRC, NPR will continue.”

The Supreme Court on Friday will hear an appeal filed by the Delhi Police challenging the bail.

Do people really trust delhi police to remain nuetral here ? 

I am not saying muslim side didn't do violence but you do realise both sides were equally violent. 

Besides most of the humanities stream make career out of these activities. The protests are just like internship to get into liberal media networks.

Exactly. The question here is as to who started the violence and the motive.

violence started with CAA bill. the motive of CAA bill was to treat muslims as second class citizenship. Ofcourse in reality it ended up effecting hindus more in assam - but thats the general inefficiency of bjp.

This is how riots happen. Tensions flare high and people tend to respond instantly. 

Police might have just watched but expecting police to control the riot instantly, never happens. At least It never happened in any of the riots happened in the past. 

Densely populated lanes and by lanes, people sitting on roof tops and well prepared to assault are better positioned. Police coming into action and expecting them STOP the riot instantly looks good in the books.

Violence is not the answer. Don't justify violence. No matter which community does that...Violence is not the solution neither the path to achieve anything.

so injustice is ok. secnd grade citizenship is ok. When govt confers second grade citizenship with all the comfort and knowledge they have then people (some of them who are terrified, some of them who are poor, some of them desperate) must ALL maintain peace ALL the time? are you expecting things will happen like that ?

i actually fear much worse things in future. Change the law , remove injustice - peace comes naturally. Maintaining peace is responsibility of everyone including government - they must stop these provocative laws.

Like I said, Violence is not the way to achieve anything. CAA did not change or make life easier or better to Indian Muslims in any way. 

Taking the path of violence to achieve what ? Did they achieve ? 

Innocent people lost lives and some lost their business and life long savings. Who is going to reimburse the losses ?
