that IS the point..India wanted to waste that extra time so as to make it even more difficult for England to chase.  Defensive mindset.  Lunch lo declare chesunte England may have gone for it and in the process lost wickets.  Now they will bat for draw - unless they open with Buttler and Bairstow and go for it initially see how it goes..they can close shop any time especially with Root around.

It’s still a good declaration. Past captains would have not done it.
