kalaa_pipaasi Posted July 1, 2021 Report Posted July 1, 2021 i think a great editing skill will protect a director from suicide - Sean Penn @2:19 in a film, most of the times editing goes un noticed. when you love a film, its the acting and directing you are loving mostly- this is a popular opinion. but editing is what removes the badly directed scenes and over acting scenes of the actors and puts the scenes that just fits in to it. a movie is made in an editing room. the success of a movie depends on the editor. a good editor can transform a flop movie to an Avg movie and an Avg movie to a hit movie. he just knows where to cut and where to continue the scenes. he actively collaborates with the director, because film is basically a directors vision and the cut has to happen in accordance. what if directors vision and editors vision are different for a film? well then you will get a lengthy directors cut which will be more rewarding to watch. because the director gives the cut according to his gut. the best example being "Once Upon a Time in America". this movie is made with 269 minute play time by the director originally, later he condensed it to 229 minutes himself. the american distribution companies edited this movie further to a 139 minute film without the directors involvement and it ended up as a flop show. people who have seen both the 229 minutes and 139 minutes film, harshly criticized the 139 minute film. The 229 minutes - European film which is a directors cut went on to win the accolades of the critics. this is how editors can heavily influence the success of it. the video is basically about the editors and directors talking about the craft of editing. the number of movies referred to in this video are too many and they are talking about their best movies. you can start seeing all the movies referred in this video because most of them have highly entertained the audience so far and they continue to do so forever. some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and a few to be chewed and digested. the same applies for this video. each time you see this video, you will find something new to think about and understand. 1 Quote
