JackSeal Posted July 15, 2021 Report Posted July 15, 2021 Any conversation on Gadkari"s performance is incomplete without talking of NHAI, the primary vehichle that finances his claim to fame. Building road assets and viability of the road projects are independent of each other. Look at Jaypee, Essel etc and how they fell to the lure. Here is a report card of NHAI under Gadkari: 1. The total highway toll revenues of NHAI in 2021 are estimated at 26000 crores, a fall of 4% over the previous year. 2. In 2014, the NHAI debt was just Rs 24,188 crores. In 2021, it jumped to 3.17 Lac crores. By 2022, it would be 3.8 lac crores or 15 times of what it was 7 years back. 3. In 2021, debt under Gadkari has increased to 12.3 times of revenues. In 2014, the debt to revenues multiple was just 2.1 times. 4. Effectively, the debt of NHAI increased 6 times more than corresponding increase in revenues. 5. In the same period, The length of NHs in India has increased from 91,287 km in April, 2014 to about 1.35 lac km. in 2021, a 50% increase. 5. Of course, there is this promise of 100,000 crores toll revenues by 2025. However, the actual revenues are nowhere close. Much like the 5 trillion economy, it remains a mirage. The question is: Has NHAI bitten more than it can chew? In 2022, at an 8% interest cost, NHAI will be paying as much as what they earned in 2021 just as interest cost. Effectively, it is incurring massive losses And would India be made to swallow these excesses by way of support? Is NHAI turning into an Air India for its bad leveraging decisions? 1 Quote

Ryzen_renoir Posted July 15, 2021 Report Posted July 15, 2021 Too many contracts given to Bjp firms who have very little expertise . For example dilip buildcon which was responsible for anakapalle flyover collapse has order books of about 30000 crores . Also too many roads are being laid in bimaru states which will not return any profit Quote
