section 5 of the Telegraph Act permits telephone tapping and authorizes the government to take possession of licensed telegraphs and to order interception of messages. On the happening of any public emergency or in the interest of public safety, the State government or Union government or any person specifically empowered by the Central or State government, if satisfied that it is mandatory or expedient to do so, may take temporary possession of any telegraph established, maintained or worked by any person licensed under the said provision of Indian Telegraph Act.

Mossack Fonseca

Cambridge Analytica

US snoopgate, especially on Germany and NATO allies

and lot more such things. It will have no impact on common man or every day life for 99.9% of the population.

Idi matter lo depth. Such things happen everyday and for people like you it’s will become an issue when someone reports. But in reality, it happens everyday.

The analysis of the Supreme Court’s decision on various cases brings forward certain areas that cover the protection of information as a part of the right of privacy[xxi]. One of the areas is section 69 which empowers the “Central Government or a State Government or any of its officers specially authorised by the Central Government or the State Government, as the case may be to exercise powers of interception under this section”[xxii], the second area is “the Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs has been designated as the competent authority, with respect to the Central Government, to issue directions pertaining to interception, monitoring and decryption”.

Similarly, the respective State Secretaries in charge of Home Departments of the various States and Union Territories are designated as competent authorities to issue directions with respect to the State Government.
