Civil engineers should opt for civil services, says Tripura CM Biplab Deb. Hello, logic. Are you there?

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb thinks that civil engineers should opt for civil services because they have the knowledge to help build society.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has in Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb found its new motormouth and a troublemaker, if some are to be believed.

Only a day after he unabashedly questioned how dark-skinned model Diana Hayden could have won the Miss World title, the 46-year-old on Saturday advised civil engineers to take up civil service-- logic?

Deb opined, "After pursuing mechanical engineering one should not go for civil services. Instead, civil engineers should join civil services as they have the knowledge and experience to help build administration and society."

He added that people with humanities background used to opt for civil services but now "even doctors and engineers are appearing for it."

For the uninitiated, civil engineers are tasked to plan, design and oversee construction and maintenance of building structures and infrastructure, like roads, railways, airports, bridges, dams, irrigation projects among many other.

Whereas, the civil services are said to be the backbone of the administrative machinery of the country. The responsibility of the civil services is to run the administration of India. The country is managed through a number of Central Government agencies in accordance with the policy directions given by the ministries.

ON DIANA HAYDEN

On Friday, the Tripura chief minister wondered aloud how dark-skinned model Diana Hayden could have won the Miss World title.

He had said he fails to understand the "process of judgement" of the crowning of the Miss World contest in 1997, in which Hayden won the award.

Deb, however, was all praise for Aishwarya Rai, who won the Miss World crown in 1994, saying she "represents the Indian women in the true sense".

Earlier this month, Deb, an arts graduate, had claimed that internet and satellite communication existed in the days of Mahabharata, which had also drawn criticism from Twitterati, intellectuals and his political adversaries.
