DummyVariable Posted August 13, 2021 Report Posted August 13, 2021 Afghanistan is literally a piece of land that none of the neighboring countries want. Most of the country is full of mountains and valleys and each valley has its own government system, culture, food and rules. Central govts have very little control over what happens in large parts of the country. US tried to install a centralized govt but failed. Infact Russia failed too and before that the British failed. There is no “Afghan” identity in the minds of the people living there. Many are ethnically related to neighboring populations like Uzbeks, Tajiks and Pakistani Pashtuns. There is not a lot of unity. These people don’t recognize international borders and they freely move in and out of the country. There is no nationalism, the population is poor/ barely literate and there is no collective conscience to become a developed country. Any country’s military presence is not going to change that.
