Why don't you just learn reading Telugu?
At this age it hardly takes a week, with may be 2hrs/day.

Telugu 'oka language' aa?
Its not about percentages, its about being able to read/write in your mother tongue.

Coming to %, true when you are in the US you see it 1% of the time, but when you are in AP, you see it 50% of the time.

If I were you, I wouldn't mind sparing 14 hours to get thorough in my native language.

i can convey any message in telugu and i think thats enough for me as long as it stays just another medium to communicate. even if i go bak to India i wont be writing any letters or articles in telugu. as a medium to communicate .. i am good at it and i've managed successfully a good 22+ yrs in India before coming to US #~`

What about reading a newspaper/scrolling or a hoarding or communicating with someone who can't read English?
