hmmm.. There's no strong dalit community in the sense that they can access city's financial and social institutions.  dalits in TN are scattered and are nowhere a powerful political force.

Dalit is a political identity and one must self identify as a dalit to be referred as one. 

In the above list, only Ilayaraja is from the Parayar caste that comes under scheduled castes list. He never identified himself as a dalit or with any dalit cause. 

Actor Vikram is also from a community in the scheduled caste list. He also doesn't identify with it. 

Only director Ranjith identifies and adveritses his identity as dalit in Tamil cinema. No one else.
