Indian upper caste women were never allowed to work apart from comfortable desk jobs. The higher labor participation before 2003 was due to large amount of agri labor. As these people moved to cities women stopped working other than IT jobs or govt desk jobs.

Indian caste culture will never allow their women to work as hair dressers or sales person or bus conductors or drivers or . These jobs are commonly worked by women in countries like china or usa or mexico.

Yes but thats more of economic logic. But low women participation is cultural unfriendliness to women in indian society just like pakistan or afghanistan. India lo emi thopu mohal leru.
