Do you take any kinda precautions just in case if you get mugged?

I have been going to different trails every morning for the past 6 months, and I sense sometimes there might be chances of getting mugged

It all depends on where you are hiking. For me it is very important to go for a hike in the morning and finish it off by noon before it gets too hot.

Take poles if there are huge elevation changes. They protect the knees when hiking down.

In my opinion you are more prone to be mugged in cities than in hiking trails. People are usually nice.

Never hike in the dark as mountain lions and coyote are very common.

Carry enough water, a hat if it is sunny and an extra layer on a mild weather. Also protein bars and may be a banana.

Have a clear idea of the goegraphy, directions and also better to carry the hard copy of the trail map.

Spend money on buying the right gear.

Happy hiking..

And if you are new to hiking, I would suggest joining a hiking group in meetup.com etc and you can learn alot from others.
