Laxman was much better batsmen at No.3. but poor guy had to play at no.5 for most of his career.

Dravid was not liked by many initially… he was well liked by people towards the end of his career for his selflessness and attitude and the realization that he was shadowed by Sachin and Ganguly … Laxman was not consistent in Tests except against Australia and West Indies though he has some great innings on his name…

One quality for a No:3 is that he should be very consistent, play as many balls as possible and shield the middle order from the new ball, which Dravid did pretty well… Even now, when Pujara fails, he exposes Kohli to the new ball… and Kohli’s test form started going downhill when Pujara lost his form..
