Telangana ranked second in farm income growth

With 6.59 per cent, Telangana is ranked second in the country in the growth rate of income from the agriculture sector in the last decade between 2011-12 and 2019-20. Tripura is the only State to have performed better than Telangana recording an agricultural income growth rate of 6.87 per cent during the period. Sikkim too secured second place with 6.59 per cent growth rate, while Andhra Pradesh stood fourth with a growth rate of 5.41 per cent. However, if larger States are taken into consideration, Telangana tops the list.

According to a white paper on ‘Agriculture in Post Independence India – Looking Back and Looking Ahead’ by NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand as part of National Medium Term Priority Framework, only 11 of the 29 States had shown more than three per cent growth rate in income from the agriculture sector. In another 10 States, the growth rate in agricultural income varied from minus 3.6 per cent to one per cent. The remaining States have not made any major progress during the 10-year period. One of the major elements in the growth rate was the growth recorded in horticulture. The majority of farmers in the country experienced meagre or no growth in this sector.

Telangana was ranked fifth in the country when comparisons were made after the inclusion of agriculture and allied sectors which includes dairy, livestock and fisheries among others. Mizoram, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura, and Sikkim recorded a growth rate of 15.48 per cent, 8.92 per cent, 8.02 per cent and 6.78 per cent respectively. However, if only larger States are to be taken into account, the State ranks second, next only to Andhra Pradesh which recorded 8.92 growth rate.

As per the Telangana State Statistical Abstract 2020, the contribution of the agriculture sector to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) increased almost threefold in 2019-20, when compared to that in 2011-12. The farm sector’s contribution to the GSDP amounted to Rs 1,35,109 crore in 2019-20 when compared to the sector’s contribution from the Telangana region in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State was just Rs 54,615 crore in 2011-12. In 2015-16, the agriculture sector’s contribution to the GSDP was Rs 75,707 crore.

It was Rs 88,979 crore in 2016-17, Rs 1,02,044 crore in 2017-18, and Rs 1,13,223 in 2018-19. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown in 2020-21, Telangana’s economy benefited from agriculture and allied sectors which grew by 21 per cent as against the 3 per cent growth at the national level.

Adedo language based states organization ani saganiki ekuva tukdalu chesi pakka states la kalipinaru, lekunte Na iyala one of the richest states in India vuntunde if not the richest…Godavari and Krishna 90% catchment and drainage manade vuntunde…atleast 3-4 languages and truly multicultural society…And Hyd would have been the economic power house of South India.

Actually 90% of krishna water come from upper basins like maharastra , karnataka 

Similarly Godavari water is also mostly from upper basin

Yeah, if it was ‘Hyderabad state’ of 1947, 90% of the Godavari and Krishna  catchment would have been in Hyderabad state. Covering almost entire Deccan.
