Raven_Rayes
The guy's based in Markham, Toronto and does a great job explaining problems and awesomeness of rail systems in Canada. The biggest problem being freight carriers owning 90%+ the rail lines, and passenger trains being slowed down to accommodate freight.

Passengers don't bring enough money in a sparsely populated area . America has an amazing freight corridor too

Its possible to build train networks that are faster than air travel, atleast between Toronto and Montreal and Ottawa and Quebec city. Toronto does have a great suburban heavy rail system with more than 500kms of tracks. but its not electrified. I think things are moving in the right direction in Canada. I wish Indians also have such channels. Chennai itself has 500km of rail lines, apart from emu services to farther towns in AP and TN. Kolkata has more than double that. And apart from Mumbai, no other city has any such systems with considerable capacity.

For example, when I was trainhopping for 6 months straight (literally living on Indian trains btwen mar '19 and sep '19), Arakkonam's passengers actually celebrated (with cake cutting) of a line to chengalpet, that was in the works for more than 25yrs. I don't know if privatization will move things faster.

I'm saying channels that cover stuff like this. there's one 'Make The Changes' that talks about infrastructure projects in TamilNadu, and mostly in an around Chennai comprehensively.
