I don't give credit to telangana politicians though. singareni is too old and established to sell.

Ambani is way too powerful for the visionary to deal with. They will get things done in their favor no matter what. and more over, offshore gas reserves rightful ownership can always be contested. If AP had a corporation to manage gas reserves and exercised its right to ownership, things would have been different. Or at least stake holder.

In the case of Bombay High Oil fields, ONGC owns them, and Maharashtra/Gujarat never claimed any ownership of such fields. The same case can be applied to KG Basin gas. But this was before NELP so the states might not be having any rights.

These wells were auctioned during the NELP, auctioned by Central Government with Director General of Hydrocarbons as nodal agency, Which means the states may not have any authority on such new discoveries unless they participate in auction and pick up a stake.

Maharastra ans Gujarat gas fields were held / supplied to their respective states only . Andhra doesn't even get 5% of kg basin gas

Location and proximity to coal reserves...almost 10,000 MW generation facilities in less than two hundred kms from open cast mines. This made the difference and of course 51% ownership in Singareni Collieries will ensure long term steady and cheap supply of domestic coal.

Financial restructuring

The AP Chief Minister Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, according to Mr Khwaja, used his good office to get the central government extend a financial restructuring package for the company in July 1999 which enabled it to make the turnaround faster."

Give thanks to AP

No one ready to buy power from natural gas plants as price is too high. See nation wide 90% of natural gas plants are sitting idle and many are in the process of converting them to thermal.
