Regular hybrids (2 ltr engine) gives only 40 mpg, PHEV (Plug in EV) range is so low, its not attactive. The EV serves around 50 or 60 miles, after that its normal engine again. EVs single charge miles range is not great too, difficult to plan for a long drive as the charging time, statiions are not widely available. So, it seems like better to wait for next set of EV suv come in market. No, that’s not true. Toyota PHEV are fastest they ever made(supra made by bMW). Toyota is the most reliable when it comes to hybrids, you statement is true for other brands but Toyota engineering is another level. Prime Rav4 and Lexus rx450h share same underpinnings like 3 electric motors and one v4 engine, all engines can work simultaneously giving the best torque on any vechile that Toyota made so far. If you are in cold regions I would highly recommend Lexus or Rav4 prime. 20-25% drop in range is usually observed in cold climates for battery electric vehicles . The ingenuity of Toyota hybrid or matter of a fact for any other hybrid is that it can self charge when running on gas due to regen and thus extending the overall range Quote
