phase 1: Kashmir was a Muslim majority state ruled by a Hindu king.  the king wanted to remain independent. but Pakistani army disguised as local tribesmen invaded Kashmir. Till then India has no particular interest in Kashmir.

realizing the fact that kashmiri army cannot win over pak military........ the king of kashmir signed an accored with India that Kashmir will accede to India. India will have control only currency, foreign policy, communications and army, and Kashmir will remain as a autonomous state in the union of India

Nehru agreed to it in-spite of patel's demand for complete accession. The army was air lifted and dropped in srinagr airport.
This was the biggest airlift after  WW II.  Major somnath sharma fought till his last breath to save the airport of srinagar. and he was the first person to receive Parama Veera Chakra

Even when Indian dominion had an edge over pak military. Nehru who always craved for name rushed to UN.    UN declared cease fire and  suggest to conduct a plebiscite. LOC is the consequence of that cease fire.

Indian govt has never agreed to plebiscite even when they new that the people in POK will support India at that time ( because of the cruel atrocities  of Pak army during invasion.  India argues that Kashmir belongs to us because the king and the then prime minister of kashmir, Sheik abdullah have acceded to India. contrary pak says that Kashmir was a muslim majority state and should have been annexed into Pakisthan as Junagadh as been annexed into India

Phase II

Pakistani leadership always had the hatered to warss India because they lost the war which they though would be very easy.

Pakistan was constantly demanding a plebisite and India was denying it.

the main reason was Pak to want kashmir is not that its a muslim state.  It is because that all the major rivers that flow through pakistan originate in Kashmir

1962 war:  Pakistan had a clear advantage in this it opened a 2 faced war one in kashmir and one in ran of kuch.
In-spite of it advantage with advanced weapon systems it lost the war because of Shastrijis courage and will
