should I mention my employer or clients in resume ?

Mention your employer in normal case and mention client name in bold case. You should be fine. Works for big companies like Microsoft and Amazon too

No need to mention your clients too. Employer is fine and he should be able to verify your employment history with him. Most of the time, it will be a simple call if it is in the US.

Honestly, no one checks for gaps in the resume… unless it is very recent.. even then, you can give a good reason.. 

also, what you put on the resume and what you put on the background verification are not compared by anyone..
