The question has always been, when? The nifty search tool has been available for Android devices since late last year, but finally, FINALLY, Google has announced it is available for our beloved iPhone.Google Goggles is a visual search tool that is able to analyze, identify, and display information for certain objects, specifically well-known objects like landmarks, logos, and products like books and games. Simply point your iPhone’s camera at an object, and Goggles will analyze the image and highlight objects it is able to recognize. From there you can tap on the object to find out more about it.Google does admit that Goggles is still a work in progress, as you will notice it has quite a bit of difficulty picking up things like animals, plants, and food. You can get your very own Google Goggles from within Google’s own Google Mobile App for free right now. After downloading the app for the first time or updating to the new version, go to the ‘Search’ tab and right next to the open field you will see a new camera button. Tap it, agree to all of the necessary legal jargon, and then take a picture of something and see what you come up with.Goggles is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 running iOS 4 or greater since it requires an auto-focusing camera. Apparently the function is only enabled for English-speaking users as well.
