During Rayala and Kakatiya dynasty..each palem had a head and was titled as "Nayaka" (Vishwanatha Nayaka, Ramalinga Nayaka) ..this name eventually transformed into  'Nayak - In karnataka (e.g. daya nayak et.c,)' , 'naikar in tamilnadu', Nayakudu/naidu in andhra/chennai areas..

Mostly Kammas aa time lo palegallu gaa unnaru kabatti vallaki aa peru, but there are bailjas/kapus who were in that role also ..some of those families also got this surname..
