If it is urgent to travel, you can directly approach the consulate and they will provide an emergency document that is valid only for returning to India. Once you reach India, you can renew it by applying online and going to local passport office.

Cancel the flight right away and renew the passport. This is the only way.

Its but easier now to renew your passport now. Regular process lo 8-10 days..tatkal lo aithe 2-3 days lo vastundi…this was true few months back not sure if it’s the same. 
 

Consulates might be able to help you get a passport quicker but as it is not an emergency travel, they may deny right away and ask you to apply passport in tatkal
