I did a road trip in North India in 2006 time and a bit of it was in UP. Did a trip from Delhi to Gorakhpur Nepal border. Night avutundi ante bayamaitunde travel cheyanika and roads were so scary..at many points, locals extracted money saying its their territory and need to pay to pass through..every toll plaza degara ide situation. 

I did a road trip last year 2021..Delhi to Lucknow and from Lucknow to Hyderabad...Its such a changed place now. and UP actually has some of the best roads in the country. Extortion, loot, lawlessness etc aithe bagane taginattu vunayi...

If UP would have been a separate country, it would be 10th most populous. It's not easy to change such a state in 1-2 terms. But things improved a lot. If Yogiji gets a second term, the major reason would be the improvement in law and order.
