 i doubt he can convince so many actors to wait 3-4 years for one movie 

Rajamouli needs a good planning team , all his movies took too much time to film. 

Besides Mahabharatam would not be possible in one movie , needs several parts together

I am pretty convinced if he is given a pre-existing characters he will make a mess out of it because he is a creative guy and not so good at implementing something straightforward
