A baby delivered in a hospital in Andhra Pradesh amid power cuts.

 

Hospitals across multiple parts of Andhra Pradesh reported loss of power on Thursday night, April 7. Babies were delivered by light from cellphones, torches and candles.

 

 

With no electricity at NTR government hospital at Narsipatnam for hours, doctors had to perform delivery under cell phone lights and candles.

Similarly, darkness due to power cuts prevailed in PG Jangareddygudem area Hospital and patients had to suffer for hours. There was no electricity in the maternity ward, while hospital staff said that there was no diesel in the generator. So, the hospital remained in darkness for almost the entire night.

The Andhra Pradesh State power transmission corporation has announced a 50% industrial power cut to meet the rising power demand amid sweltering heat.

The industrial load relief will continue for 15 days. While power demand has increased, the state is facing a deficit of around 5 lakh units per day of power after using all its resources.

The opposition, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which is already protesting the power price increase, has now taken up the power cut issue.

Party President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu blamed the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Government for 'a hellish time' due to long hours of unscheduled power cuts.

In a tweet, the TDP chief expressed concern over the people in villages suffering on account of severe interruptions in power supply without prior information.

“A state which once illuminated with abundant power, was now pushed into darkness and blackouts,” he said.

Naidu demanded that Chief Minister YS Jagan give answers to the pregnant and lactating women who were suffering a lot in maternity hospitals.

He also demanded the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government to explain to the general public as to why the state was facing frequent and long power cuts.

“Why is the government implementing power cuts though the people were paying huge current bills without fail?” he further said.

Chandrababu Naidu advised the government to stop threatening the public who were raising their voice against its unscheduled power cuts and solve the issue.
