JackSeal Posted May 21, 2022 Report Posted May 21, 2022 Following the opening of our international borders, our biosecurity officers are back at it protecting Aotearoa New Zealand. During a routine inspection recently, two bottles of cow urine were seized and destroyed at Christchurch Airport. Animal products of this nature are associated with serious animal diseases, including foot and mouth disease. The cow urine was going to be used for prayers as it is regarded as a purifying agent under some Hindu traditions. But due to the biosecurity risk, the urine was not allowed to enter the country. The passenger had declared the urine, which was the correct thing to do. If you are ever unsure if an item in your luggage is a biosecurity risk, always declare it – to protect NZ and to avoid a fine or prosecution. Quote
