Ponniyin Selvan is a pop, page turning story, not great literature sure. But it still has way too much material to stuff into a teaser. Its not a simple story of some kingdom and some revenge. Even the revenge in this story is extraordinarily elaborate. tamils who watch the teaser know why vikram is behaving like that. and who are all those sadhus etc.

this story is already being made countless times as a serial, as a stage drama, as a cartoon series in Tamil. people will check that out before watching this film. since the same story can be written for the screen in multiple ways, people will still be keen to watch it on the big screen.

I don't expect other language people to be that curious about it, since you say its lame.. Its probably lame.

but for me, it was good. it was sufficient enough to make me wanna watch it.

the uniqueness is in the screenplay, and the story. Not the war scenes. They are almost immaterial to the story. a small phase where a lovelorn prince goes into unnecessary wars to forget that his love was rejected.

already he made a sanitized version of Ponniyin Selvan that caters to Indian sensibilities. If you think this is not enough, then I'm sorrry, intha kantey Indianize cheyyaleru aa story ni.

a better tamil director (there are too many to count) would have made a movie strictly for the tamils.

PR strategy gurinchi chepthunnava.. may be you are right. I don't know. I really don't expect this movie to do well outside of TN. Never did.

Vijayendra Prasad was in story discussions of Ponniyin Selvan in 90s. Aa tarvatha aa project cancel aindi. andulo konni elements teesukuni Baahubali lo pettadu. So, Tamil directors have a right to copy scenes from Baahubali.

BB is copy and mix of Lion king story line, lord of the rings vfx, spartans war scene.

yeah historical fiction. Its based on an actual event that happened in the 10th century. A young chola prince dies in mysterious circumstances just before he was to become the king,

and the author used that to write an elaborate story involving all actual characters in those times being part of some grand scheme to usurp the throne.

so there's a mystery element to it too.. Who killed Aditya Karikaalan? actually even the book doesn't provide the answer at the end. but there are several other mysteries on the way, that the book does expose one by one.
