Tendulkar, Sehwag rested for Australia ODIs

Five players from the current Indian Test eleven playing against Australia would not be part of the squad for the 3 ODIs against the Kangaroos after the Indian selectors decided to rest Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha.

Also rested were Gautam Gambhir and Ishant Sharma, who sustained injuries during the Test series.

Sehwag, Gambhir and Ishant are currently undergoing treatment for their minor injuries and hence were not considered for the ODIs.

Shikhar Dhawan was the only new inclusion in the Indian squad.

Dhawan has been a regular opener for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and earlier this week, he had scored a century in the Challenger series.

In the absence of Tendulkar, Sehwag and Gambhir, Dhawan is most likely to open for India along with Murali Vijay, who notched up his maiden Test hundred against Australia at the Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore.

With Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha also missing, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to spearhead the spin department while Ashish Nehra and Praveen Kumar would lead the pace department.

Ashwin played an important role for the Chennai Super Kings team during their victorious outing in the Champions League tournament held recently in South Africa.
