The class 8 Kannada textbook says Mr Savarkar used to sit on the wings of a bird and fly out to visit the homeland while he was imprisoned in the Andaman jail.

A fresh controversy has erupted in Karnataka over charges of "rewriting history" by the BJP-led government as the textbook revision committee has reportedly inserted a section on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in the revised high school curriculum in the state.

The class 8 Kannada textbook says Mr Savarkar used to sit on the wings of a bird and fly out to visit the homeland while he was imprisoned in the Andaman jail.

"There was not even a keyhole in the cell where Savarkar was incarcerated. But, Bulbul birds used to visit the room, and Savarkar used to sit on their wings and fly out and visit the motherland every day," a passage in the new textbook says.

Yes, this is inspired from a story where  someone with a white horse, slightly larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule mounted it and they were carried from the Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the Distant Mosque in Jerusalem.

Some believe this event to have been a spiritual one but the majority Sunni consensus is that it was a physical journey.

Before crying on something written in a 8th class text book on Savarkar which is easily editable, do you have the guts to edit the book above ?

Illogical… you are comparing modern history with pukita puranalu and religious books … all religious books have such hypothetical content

The revision committee in Karnataka clearly stated it is a literary decoration.

“Any connoisseur will know that in the sentence Savarkar used to go to the motherland sitting on the wings of a bird, it does not mean that Savarkar used to sit on the wings of a bird himself. But, our so-called intellectuals have found a problem in this sentence, it means that there is something wrong with their intellectuality”

“Whatever the textbook committee has been doing has been politicised from day one. Certain sections of people are being incited against us because of the people who need an agenda for the elections. They are trying to make curriculum changes a political issue”
