b4 that ... the number of colleges were small .. and colleges used to confer diplomas in the name of each university .... like andhra medical college under AU, guntur medical college under NG Ranga , Osmania medical college under OU etc .. each medical college used to work independently ... with great inefficiency in administration and delivery of UG and PG medical education ...

in 86 all colleges were brought under one umbrella ... to improve the administration and stream lining of medical education ... first in the country ... (ofcourse idea was inspired from US, on the advice Dr Katragadda Subba Rao).

later the model was followed by Karnataka, TN and various other states followed.

There is no haelth university in ap befor 1986. Only medical colleges vundevi osmania andhra sv university laki affilate ayi vundevi 

New health university started in siddartha medical college vijayawada in 1986 and all medical colleges affiliated to ap health university
