From what I know, Twitter architecture is unique.. they don't have as many users as FB, but complexity is same .

They are also in the midst of infra upgrade to k8s. 

They have their own DB and tools. None of the open source software scales or works for these companies.

Managing them need pros who ... Not just developers with couple of years of experience. It also need patience and long term commitment.

Yes, Twitter was slow in adding features but that's also beauty of the platform.

Once you add long videos and other features, it will risk losing appeal.
