I saw a post where members were discussing about 19 yr old, dating/premarital sex.

People from age 17 to 24, both boys and girls, can be naive enough to get themselves into trouble unknowingly, during dating and other relationships they have. I agree with members who said, it’s difficult and not needed to “forbid” them n all, instead, give them tools and knowledge how to be SAFE.

Some quick tips/guidance I would give to my kids, as a parent are:

what is safe sex?: you prevent pregnancy and diseases… PLUS, you know both parties consented! It’s best to take direct consent by asking clearly if they want this (no hints, clues, beating round the bush, “may be”, “idk”). Encourage your partner to give direct consent. If there is any hesitation/shyness.. wait.. give time. Last but not the least, consent is needed not just before the act, during the act too! Anytime anything not going well, stop! It’s ok to stop! It’s not an embarrassment… Embarassing is, when you know things are not going well and still went ahead and finished it, just for the heck of it or you felt forced since you “already consented”. Check on your partner during and after… Anything went wrong, apologize and improvise.

Don’t lead your relationship through money (usually boys do) or looks (usually girls do). Spending on girlfriend could be irresponsible spending.. it’s ok to say no, set your limits and boundaries in how you choose to spend or look! Be it money, looks or your appearance: don’t let your partner manipulate you into going overboard or hard on yourself.

During conflicts: do not hit your partner… do anything else but not touch your partner in anger. Defending yourself is totally fine and needed.

Please add more, would appreciate it…
