How did you answer how much is your salary

Hi friends, 

 

last time when i went to India , i was asked “how much is your salary?”  on multiple occasions. This was asked by friends of friends once, another time when standing in line to congratulate the bride and groom, the other time in front of my relatives house out of no where by my relative that I have no spoke in years, other time by a relative of a friend. 
 

If I dont give a straight answer , they are persistent until I give some number. How would others face this.

How do you respond nicely, and conveys that I don't want to share my salary. 
 

 

ps: all of them who asked knows I am married, and I know they are only asking to judge me.
