Requesting an Expedited Appointment

Applicants can request an expedited appointment through our online appointment system. You must already have a confirmed interview appointment date in order to request an expedited appointment. If your emergency appointment request is approved, you will be notified with instructions via email. You should not cancel your existing appointment unless you receive a confirmation that your request for an emergency appointment has been approved. If you have not yet received an approval or denial, your request is still under consideration.

Immigrant Visa

As of October 2021, the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai has reopened Immigrant Visa Unit appointments of all types, including:

  • Rescheduling of cancelled appointments

  • SB-1 status and visa applications

  • LPR services (boarding foil)

  • Reissuance of expired visas

  • K applications

We have contacted those whose appointments were cancelled in April-May 2021 and Spring 2020 with instructions to continue processing their cases. We have also resumed 221(g) submission in all categories and the scheduling of routine cases through the National Visa Center. Our operating capacity remains limited and we cannot predict when you might be contacted for an appointment.

Due to limited appointment availability, we are currently unable to reschedule any cancelled appointments directly, and availability for rescheduling may be very limited, with appointments unavailable at some times. We are also unable to speculate on or respond to inquiries regarding potential future cancellations or appointment availability.

New appointments can be made through our website . We will add appointments as often as we have availability, but we expect appointment slots to fill quickly. Please continue to monitor our website for appointment availability. Detailed information on the current status of visa services and restrictions related to the COVID-19 global pandemic can be found here .

Please note that travel restrictions remain in effect in many states in India and the availability of appointments does not mean that you will be able to travel to the Consulate or a Visa Application Center (VAC). Please ensure you will be able to travel before making an appointment.

As appropriate, visa applicants should follow the instructions given to them for registering for appointments, and monitor their email address for confirmation and further information. Multiple separate attempts to contact the Embassy or Consulate will slow communication.

For answers to applicants’ most frequently asked questions, please visit our FAQs. You can find updates on our operational status on this website.

For visa inquiries, the best and fastest way to communicate is to email to [email protected]   or call the call center during business hours to speak to a representative.

For detailed information about the current status of visa services worldwide and visa restrictions related to the COVID-19 global pandemic, visit travel.state.gov .

We strongly recommend that those who are eligible to utilize the interview waiver program do so. Please use this website to determine whether you are eligible for interview waiver processing and schedule an appointment for document drop-off. A list of drop-off locations is available on this website.

Document pickup / submission services

Effective August 17, 2021 the U.S. Embassy/ Consulates in India will offer free document pickup/submission services at the OFC where the Embassy/Consulate is located.
