They have some contacts from their families from back home in India - usually it works from your village background and family reputation in India. They enter and lay low for a while working odd jobs for cash until they get to the person who can provide them shelter. Next they get a lawyer and file an Assylum case for them saying they have a threat for their life, and fleeing from that threat, have entered US unknowingly. Once the case is filed, it takes ages with the court dates, meanwhile through family and connections, they get married to some US citizen from their race Punjabi/Gujarathi/whatever and later the case gets dismissed.

But you have to ride your luck until you cross into the US. After that not so much. You get caught in the US, you get detained and get sent to a Detention facility and every person who got caught knows how to use the US legal system from there.
