HGI pyramid scheme is it similar to Amway

My cousin called me saying this HGI financial planning service similar to pyramid scheme , he said this is not cheap like amway and people are earning millions in this scheme. 
he is saying we have to work 10 hours a week and make sure our friends are joined 

is this something I should run away from ???

Idi current trend in Dallas and Austin. seems very similar to Amway. Except selling products, they are selling life insurance,specifically IUL ( Indexed Universal Life) .  I attended few sessions. you will make money only if you join more people under you.

I have seen some of their work, essentially the pitch that came to us was if you want to have the same salary/money/lifestyle without tax after you retire, you pay anywhere from 2500-3500 per month after tax dollars and do it for 10-15 years.

After 10 years your money actually starts increasing more, than in the 10 years you have been depositing and you can withdraw when ever you retire at 50 or 55 or 60 to supplement your income. They deposit in some index funds and will give you a gap insurance of a million or two or more depending on what you choose and payments.

So if something happens to you while you are paying, you get gap insurance, else you can get your money after the 10 or 15 year deposit matures.

As you get more people joined in i think a cut comes to your account along with the people who have joined you all the way to the top.

So its an amway like scheme with insurance like @GTR posted above. People having spare money every month and not knowing what to do can do this investment for retirement money or so was the pitch.
