It was the last game of the group stages.

Mumbai, Maharashtra and Andhra in contention.

Mumbai played against Maharashtra. Andhra against Assam. All Mumbai or Maharashtra needed was a first innings lead to qualify.

Andhra needed neither of Mumbai and Maharashtra to get a first innings lead and then win by a bonus point to qualify.

Andhra won by an innings and 95 runs, thereby winning the bonus point.

Mumbai and Maharashtra match ended in a draw with both teams ending with 384 in first innings!  Andhra literally needed a draw to qualify
