Looks like you got cold feet.. first and foremost go through the contract.. and see what the cancellation policy is.. 

Tell them that you learned of some layoffs in your team and you might be impacted.. and waiting for more information from your manager.. that you don’t want to get into this when you know that you may lose your job and your loan can be rejected.. ask them to give you some time.. talk to the builder and ask nicely..

You mean to india. If so, to hear that .

In that case , it is a very good reason and the builder will be very considerate as well.
