Qatar and Emirates grew at the cost of Air India. Had the govt privatized air India way back in 2003, It could have been an airline to be reckoned today. 
 

This is just the beginning. Watch out, the biggest airline alliance is on the cards. Air India, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines code share in the works.
