Back in the day, weddings were grand because they trigger the economy to distribute wealth. People who are rich should distribute their wealth by spending on things like this, it will bolster the Indian economy. If everyone is mindful of their spending, the Indian economy will collapse tomorrow.

rich people percentage is very less...our gini index (income inequality) is pretty bad...

only few rich people weddings do that spending...and most of the middle class weddings are not that expensive..

It is a 20 billion $ industry in India.. na school friends iddaru event decoration okallu, lighting okallu chesthunnaru.. they are earning too good.. better than us in US..

You think only rich people celebrate weddings and events?? Middle class and upper middle class are also spending like crazy on events now.. There is a minimum standard for every event… everything is a celebration.. weddings are a 7 day event now.. birthdays (not just for kids, even milestone birthdays like 40’s, 50’s etc).. So many ppl live on these events - photographers, catering, decorations, event management, lighting, flowers, make up, etc etc..
