Update on the LinkedIn Hiring Rate:

1/ Hiring declined again in March, by 0.6% M/M.  This was the smallest monthly decrease since hiring started falling in the spring of 2022.

2/ It’s worth mentioning that the pace of declines seems to gradually be attenuating, we’re averaging about -2% per month and late last year it was 3%-4% a month.  I’m crossing my fingers that this continues.

3/ We also saw some improvement in our Workforce Confidence Index during March. It rebounded a little. The overall trend: a drift downward, consistent with gradual cooling in the labor market.

4/ Hiring increased in 8 of 20 industries during March, up from 4 last month. The strongest industries over the past year are utilities, government, education and health care.  Tech hiring is down by about 50%.

5/ 14 of the 20 metro areas we follow most closely experienced hiring increased in March, vs. just 3 last month.
