Don't know all details, but USDA has facilities to test and certify in b'lore and pune. You need to do export packaging, get it inspected and ship it by airline - timing is important as in summer, if it is stuck in warehouse for customs or clearance - you are screwed. 

huge profits - it costs less than 12 to 18$ in all expenses. rest is all profits.

There are multiple layers in the entire process to my knowledge.

Farmer in India who sells in bulk 
Sorter/LiftReady (some times 2 separate parties do that) : Hand separate the "good" ones, individually wrap them, and box (the boxes we buy individually) them. Pallet meeda 1000 boxes load chesi shrink wrap cheyyadam. 

After this it is called Lift Ready. This usually happens closer to a local port like Nellore, Machilipatnam. There are providers that sell Lift Ready pallets. 2years back lift ready pallets were 11-1300 INR per box. 

From here on you need FDA approved certificates, insurance etc. 

Then enters the transporter/shipper. They move the packed pallet to the bigger port like Chennai, Mumbai etc. The same party sometimes have supply chain to off load in the US port (Houston, Jersey, Calif, etc).

Then truckers : Offloaded pallets (100 boxes) usually motham oka truck lo saddukuni mana areas ki testaru - local distribution points, grocery stores etc. 

Entire process lo ekkada process follow avvaka poyina kooda - US customs lo aapestaru. 

Examples i heard : paperwork correctness, compliance when packing etc. 

One thing I heard was - someone put straw (endu gaddi) in a pallet and US Customs denied entry into the port. Edo last minute lo aa shipment motham mexico ki divert chesi juice factory ki pennies ki ammesaranta em cheyyaleka.

But highly doubtful you can scale it up.
