yes, if you have mortgage you can even apply to i485 even though priority date is not current!

Heard as no real time use cases yet even though it's nothing new not many people applied 

But if yiu can prove the same compelling circumstances again in next year (but it's upto to discretion of uscis to approve or not) but you can transfer the h1 and go stamping and come back, (not sure within us stamping which they are pllaning this year ,will be applicable for this scenario as it might be consular process)
