This is just to propoganda of Indian govt , there is absolutely no way a 40k$ tesla is going to cost below 20 lakhs in india. 

If india taxes them at the same rate as current cars, the cheapest tesla is going to cost 40 lakhs

I don't see Tesla abandoning its china plans and moving to India to set up a second export base, unless something drastic happens in between.

Absolutely china is 100 times better , they have lithium processing plants , abundant rare earth minerals , huge amount of mines producing cobalt , nickel , etc 

Realistically tesla will only open a plant to sell locally and to neighbouring countries

Agreed, 20 lakhs ke ante kastame…marketing kosam few months or may be  downgrade chesi with then with basic addons tho 30 lakhs varaki price chestaru.

If tesla launches at 30 lakhs  on road then all the existing premium manufacturers will close shop 

I don't think indian leadership will look for long term progress and keep EV taxes low like rest of the world . All indian polticians look for taxing immediately as much as possible to give some schemes to win votes 

28% gst on cement , 18% on iron and steel in a country with such terrible infrastructure. They will tax tesla's even more
