Alliance lo smaller party kantey bigger party will get more advantage (both Seats wise & Votes wise). But gives a chance for the smaller party to give a chance to get representation in Assembly or even Parliament. 

For instance, TDP + TRS alliance in 2009 didn't yield much for TRS, but TDP  emerged 2nd largest party regardless of segregation, TRS lost its ground (down from 26 seats to 10 seats)
